Abortion
Premature extraction of an embryo or fetus from the uterus.

Abstain
To voluntarily do without or refrain from something desired. (For example, a person may choose to abstain from smoking, drinking, drugs, and sex.)

Abstinence
The act of voluntarily doing without certain pleasures.

Abuse
To intentionally hurt or offend another person. There are various forms of abuse: verbal, physical, or sexual.

Abuser
A person who abuses another person. This could be a stranger, acquaintance or family member.

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
A disease caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It destroys the immune system, leaving the infected person unable to fight off certain opportunistic infections.

The stage in life between childhood and adulthood.

Adoption
To bring a child who was born to someone else into a home and raise as a family member.

Anal
Of or relating to the anus.

Anus
The outer rectal opening between the buttocks. This opening remains closed except during defecation (when a person has a bowel movement).

Asymptomatic
No signs, no symptoms but contagious. Most people with sexually transmitted diseases are asymptomatic.
